For older people, horseradish, as well as garlic, is a most excellent medicine. Both regenerate the blood vessels, especially the arteries, and reduce the blood pressure. If you are over the age of forty, you should give these two remedies serious consideration. They serve an important purpose, act in a regenerative way, and are stimulating.

However, you must be careful not to use too much horseradish, since it is very strong. The Chinese make a horseradish relish that, if eaten without your knowing what it is, will take you by surprise as the pungent flavour goes up your nose, indeed, it seems, even to your brain, causing temporary discomfort. The sensation is severe and definite, as with any other strong stimulation, but do not forget that the effect is also one of cleansing.

Horseradish Syrup

If the symptom of catarrh refuses to disappear, try horseradish syrup. This remedy is also indicated for the treatment of weak lungs and other bronchial and respiratory problems, since horseradish contains an antibiotic substance similar to penicillin.

Prepare the syrup by adding honey to the grated horseradish. Mix well and press through muslin. The residue should be cooked with a little water and raw (unrefined) cane sugar, pressed out again, and then added to the syrup. This provides a strong medicinal mixture.
